The Castle

The Castle

History

The construction of the castle took place in different phases. The construction started in the 17th century (with the east wing and adjacent farmhouse) and ended in the 19th century (with the entire west wing and the central tower). A century ago, the area covered more than 400 hectares.

In 2009, the ‘Château de Planchevienne’ estate was bought by a couple, Dewulf-Lein, who, since then and through different phases, have proceeded to carry out extensive renovation work to create the gem that the property currently is. The property is run by them, together with the manageress, who resides on site, and their loyal staff.

Park

The gardens surrounding the castle are carefully maintained. The numerous parterres of hydrangea and boxwood blend together and give the area a special cachet.

The masterpiece is the garden steel gazebo, surrounded by an impressive wickerwork of fragrant thick white roses. A fenced and 10-metre heated swimming pool is nicely integrated on the west side of the castle.

The wooden sun loungers and garden chairs are comfortably furnished with soft cushions, where our guests can blissfully enjoy themselves. The numerous seats, scattered throughout the park, offer the perfect setting to recharge your batteries.

In the park there are several century-old trees that contribute to the unique charm. If you wish to eat outside, you can choose between the morning terrace at the front of the castle or the shaded terrace at the back of the castle, which offers a magnificent view of the park and forest.

Location

The property :

  • is situated 1.5 km from the famous race-circuit of Magny-Cours
  • is situated in the middle of the medieval, touristic triangle Nevers – Moulins – Decize.
  • is situated at less than 2 hours by car from the city of Paris.
  • offers, thanks to its central location in France and its location near the A77 highway, the ideal stopover halfway to the South of France or Spain. The A77 offers an alternative highway to the A6 to the South, with a much lower traffic volume.

Ambiance

The living area of the castle has a modern kitchen and scullery with all the necessary provisions, ranging from crockery, cutlery to cooking utensils, a microwave oven, 2 hot air ovens, fridges, a large freezer, a dishwasher, a washing machine, a tumble dryer etc. The large dining area with its impressive mosaic floor and open fireplace can seat 18 people. There is also a spacious entrance hall, a large sitting area with comfortable armchairs and a cosy fireplace, and finally a library/bar, also with a fireplace and a bar.

You will experience an unprecedented peace and quiet in the ‘Château’ throughout the year. At night, the castle is bathed in the atmospheric light of all the twilight lamps that provide nice lighting in each room, and by the magnificent chandeliers that can all be dimmed.

At night, from the terraces or the park, you can often marvel at the breathtaking starry skies, one of the assets of the Burgundy region. You can also warm yourself by a crackling ‘bonfire’ in the cast iron bowl provided for this purpose, surrounded by tree trunks.

Security

The property is completely secured and is equipped with all kinds of modern technology (external camera surveillance, smoke detectors, motion detectors, automatic gate control (with code) and an alarm system).
