Surroundings

‘Château de Planchevienne’ is located in the department of ‘La Nièvre’ (58), in the southwestern part of the Burgundy region, at approximately 2 hrs drive from the city of Paris. A few kilometres south of the property, you enter the ‘Auvergne’ region. This beautiful region has lots to offer. Both culturally and in the field of sports, you will certainly find something to your liking here. It is also a fascinating region for wine lovers.

Location

The property is situated at 10 km from Nevers, 40 km from Moulins and 20 km from Decize. These three cities are certainly worth a visit.

The river ‘La Loire’ lies about four kilometres to the north. Precisely because of this location, just south of the Loire, the property and the region also owe their micro-climate, so the winters are shorter and the summers longer and the weather is often better than elsewhere in the Burgundy region.

The ‘bad’ weather often stays just above the Loire rive. In other words, the weather gods are often very favourable to the region where the property is located. The region is also known for its ‘été indien’ (very mild autumn summers).

Culture

At approximately 10 kilometres from the property is one of the most beautiful villages in France; ‘Apremont-sur-Allier’, built on the banks of the Allier river. (www.apremont-sur-allier.com)

The ‘Bec d’Allier’, where the Allier flows into the Loire, is also a place worth visiting. ‘Le Pont Canal’, built across the river ‘l’Allier’, offers a beautiful piece of architecture. Boats sail on an artificial canal built in the shape of a bridge and cross the Allier river. The historical centre of Nevers is also worth a visit.

For wine lovers: Sancerre and Pouilly, 2 well-known and renowned wine regions, are about 50 kilometres to the north and can be reached very quickly via the A77 highway. Among other, the famous property ‘de la Doucette’ can charm many wine lovers. The property of Château de Planchevienne therefore offers the perfect setting to enjoy the evening while tasting the wines bought during the day.

Sport

A sporty person won’t complain here either. Dozens of mapped-out mountain bike, cycling and walking routes will allow you to explore the region. There is something for everyone: flat routes along the canals (canal latéral à la Loire) or a more hilly route. Bicycles (both electric and regular) can be provided on the property. A canoe trip on the Loire or Allier river is also an activity not to be missed. For more information check out www.nevers-tourisme.com.

For the golf lovers: at 1 km from the property, you will find the 18-hole ’Golf du Nivernais’. (www.golf-du-nivernais.com)

Some 30 km further south of the property, lies the Bourbonnais region, the place to be for hunting. The property of Château de Planchevienne offers the ideal base for a few days of well-organised hunting in this hunting paradise.

Motor sport enthusiasts are also well catered for: the legendary ‘Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours’ is only a stone’s throw away from the property. You can drive a race car on the circuit yourself in a professional setting. There are also countless racing events on the circuit, which you can attend as a spectator or participant. Check out www.circuitmagnycours.com for more information. Finally, there is a fantastic outdoor karting circuit, where both adults and children can enjoy themselves.

Old-timer tours are also organised from the property on a regular basis. These are customised, according to the wishes of our guests.
